The VAM-52 is a recognized Top 100 Morgan Dollar variety and features the Reverse of 1878, making it one of the more desirable varieties from the early years of the Morgan Dollar series. The VAM-52 is identified by a doubled 7 in the date along with the distinctive engraved wing feather associated with this variety.

The Reverse of 1878 is especially sought after because only a small number of 1879-S Morgan Dollars were struck using leftover 1878 reverse dies. These dies produced an eagle with a flatter breast and a parallel top arrow feather, clearly distinguishing the variety from the standard Reverse of 1879.

Graded About Uncirculated 53 (AU53) by ANACS, this coin exhibits light circulation wear while retaining strong overall detail and considerable original character. AU53 is an attractive grade for this variety, offering a nice combination of preservation and affordability while allowing the distinctive VAM characteristics to remain collectible features.

The 1879-S Morgan Dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint, with a total mintage of 9,110,000 coins. Struck in 90% silver, each Morgan Dollar contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver.

Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features Liberty wearing her iconic Phrygian cap, while the reverse showcases the eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch.
