1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar – NGC MS65
Add a beautiful Gem Mint State example of one of the most popular San Francisco Morgan Dollars with this 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar, certified NGC MS65. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the 1880-S had a mintage of 8,900,000 coins and is well known for its attractive strikes and overall quality.
Graded Mint State 65 (MS65) by NGC, this coin is fully uncirculated and offers excellent preservation, attractive mint luster, and strong overall eye appeal. An MS65 represents a Gem-quality Morgan Dollar, with only minor contact marks or abrasions expected for the grade.
The 1880-S is one of the more popular Morgan Dollar issues for collectors because San Francisco was known for producing coins with particularly sharp strikes. Large numbers of 1880-S dollars have survived in Mint State, including substantial numbers in Gem grades.
Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features Liberty wearing her iconic Phrygian cap, while the reverse showcases a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching arrows and an olive branch. The “S” mintmark identifies this coin as a product of the San Francisco Mint.
Struck in 90% silver, the Morgan Dollar contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. Combining classic American design, historic San Francisco Mint production, and a desirable NGC MS65 grade, this coin is an excellent addition to any Morgan Dollar collection.
