1886-O Morgan Silver Dollar – NGC AU55

Graded About Uncirculated 55 (AU55) by NGC, this coin displays light circulation wear on the highest points while retaining strong overall detail and much of its original mint character. AU55 is an attractive grade for the 1886-O, offering an excellent combination of preservation, affordability, and collector appeal.

The 1886-O Morgan Dollar is particularly interesting because its large original mintage does not translate into abundant high-grade survivors. PCGS notes that the issue is usually encountered in circulated grades, while Mint State examples are scarce and Gem examples are exceptionally rare.

Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features Liberty wearing her iconic Phrygian cap, while the reverse showcases a majestic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch. The “O” mintmark beneath the wreath identifies this coin as a product of the New Orleans Mint.

Struck in 90% silver, the Morgan Dollar contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. Combining the classic Morgan Dollar design, New Orleans Mint history, and an attractive NGC AU55 grade, this coin is an excellent addition to any Morgan Dollar date-and-mintmark set.
