1896-O Morgan Silver Dollar – NGC XF45

Despite this substantial production, the issue is notably difficult to find in high Mint State grades, making attractive circulated examples an important part of the series.

Graded Extremely Fine 45 (XF45) by NGC, this coin displays moderate circulation wear while retaining strong overall design detail. XF45 is an appealing grade for collectors who want a well-preserved circulated Morgan Dollar with plenty of remaining detail and character.

The 1896-O is known for soft strikes, abrasions, and subdued luster, characteristics commonly encountered on surviving examples. NGC notes that the typical 1896-O is found around the high AU range, while uncirculated examples become increasingly scarce above MS62.

The obverse features Lady Liberty wearing her iconic Phrygian cap, designed by George T. Morgan. The reverse displays the majestic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, with the “O” mintmark identifying this coin as a product of the historic New Orleans Mint.

Struck in 90% silver, the Morgan Dollar weighs 26.73 grams and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver.
