1921 Peace Silver Dollar – High Relief – PCGS XF40
Own a historic first-year Peace Dollar with this 1921 Peace Silver Dollar, certified PCGS XF40. The 1921 issue holds a special place in American numismatics as the first year of the Peace Dollar series and the only regular-issue Peace Dollar struck in the original High Relief format. With a mintage of just 1,006,473 coins, it is one of the most desirable early issues in the series.
Graded Extremely Fine 40 (XF40) by PCGS, this coin exhibits moderate circulation wear while retaining strong overall design detail. The XF40 grade provides an excellent balance between affordability and preservation, allowing collectors to enjoy the distinctive High Relief design while retaining considerable detail throughout the coin.
The 1921 High Relief Peace Dollar was struck exclusively at the Philadelphia Mint during the final days of December 1921. The high-relief design created significant striking challenges for the Mint, and many examples show softness in the highest points of the design—particularly Liberty's hair and the eagle's central details.
Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the obverse features Liberty wearing a radiant crown, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a mountaintop with an olive branch and the word PEACE below. The design commemorates the nation's hope for peace following World War I.
Struck in 90% silver, this classic U.S. dollar contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The combination of first-year status, one-year-only High Relief design, historic significance, and PCGS XF40 certification makes this an excellent addition to any Peace Dollar or classic U.S. silver collection.
